Renowned Colorado Poet Andrea Gibson Dies at 49; Tributes Pour In

Friends and relatives reported that well-known Colorado poet Andrea Gibson passed away at the age of 49 following a valiant fight with cancer. Huffington, Arianna, paid homage. According to their friends and family, well-known Colorado poet Andrea Gibson died at the age of 49. According to Gibson's friend and Huffington Post founder Ariana Huffington, they died following a "courageous journey with cancer."


Born in Maine in 1975, Gibson and their family moved to Boulder, Colorado, in 1999. In Colorado's cities, Gibson's literary career truly took off. After winning the Women of the World Poetry Slam in 2008 and going on to win the Denver Grand Slam four times, they rose to fame through Colorado open mic poetry. A strong advocate for LGBTQ rights, Gibson was openly non-binary and preferred the pronouns they/them.


In August 2021, Gibson received a diagnosis of ovarian cancer. Tests revealed tumors, and treatment—which included chemotherapy and a radical hysterectomy—began.

"Gibson's partner, Meg, and I enjoy a quiet dinner the day we learn the cancer has returned. We are unsure about how to handle ourselves. Now what? "Where are we going next?" In a poignant poem, Gibson reflected on their fight against cancer. Additionally, they were afflicted with Chronic Lyme Disease (CLD), an undiagnosed medical condition.

Gibson's poetry, which has been collected in seven volumes, addresses a variety of topics, including social justice, mental health, gender, and LGBTQ problems. A memoir titled "How Poetry Can Change Your Heart" was also authored by Gibson. Because of their literary influence and influence on the Colorado community, Governor Jared Polis named Gibson Colorado's 10th Poet Laureate in September 2023.

In remembrance of the cherished poet, tributes to Colorado's Poet Laureate came in after his passing, touching everyone who read them.

Boulder Books Store lamented the passing of the wonderful Andrea Gibson in a post on X. "We are appreciative of the occasions we were able to have them in our store and hear their words in our Ballroom; they were a favorite author of many of our employees."

Gibson has been dating fellow LGBT and spoken-word artist and novelist Megan Falley since around 2015. They got engaged in 2022.
